I tried using a router the first time, but found it difficult. For this one I took a piece of 1/4" luan and used a scroll saw to cut the footprint of the bowls into it. Then I attached the legs to a piece of 1/2" plywood using screws, and glued the luan to the top of that (hiding the screws). I finished the edges with some scrap pine that I had.
