Ahhh, my older brother is a drummer, i offer my condolences, krwlz.
Playing along to cd's really helped my bro, as well as being in like 5 bands, he just got thrown right in and had to figure it all out by trial and error. He took lessons, but Sion is right, 6 months is fine. And just messing around for fun is usually helpful,
What YOU should do though, if he really gets into it, is buy earmuffs.
And learn drummer jokes. Those are good.
