Well, you can get somewhere without ever having intended to get there, but all the intending in the world will not get you somewhere without some mechanism. I would say 99 mechanism 1 intention.
As for curses, I think it's all psychosomatic, if you believe you are cursed, you will unconsciously do things resulting in bad stuff happening.
