There were some American cars back then which were completely badass. For example, the L88 corvette that was sold could destroy a modern Z06 in a straight line (someone I talked to once owned both). The feel of those cars is also unequaled by modern cars that may be just as fast.

The L88 may have FELT faster but I guarentee the Z06 would absolutly slaughter it.
Heres from a quick google
"Car Life magazine road tested an L88 street Corvette in 1969 with rather indifferent results. With a Turbo 400 and 3.36 gears, the acceleration figures were 0-60 in 6.8 seconds and quarter-mile time of 14.10 seconds at 106.89 mph. It wasn’t a good combination for the street. "
"The Z06 will continue to be outfitted with the unique six-speed manual transmission for 2002. It will enable skilled drivers to achieve 0-60 mph times of 3.9 seconds and to cover a quarter mile in 12.4 seconds at 116 mph. By comparison, the 2001 powertrain combination achieved 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds at 114 mph. "
