That's because the reactions that people have today over american cars had no basis in the 60's.
There were some American cars back then which were completely badass. For example, the L88 corvette that was sold could destroy a modern Z06 in a straight line (someone I talked to once owned both). The feel of those cars is also unequaled by modern cars that may be just as fast. There's a great adrenaline rush to get from driving something without refinement.
Ferraris and Porsches of the time were much slower than these super special editions that you're focusing on.
In the end, people buy these cars because they want to own a legend, not because its the fastest car they can afford. The engines of the time can be reproduced today without much work, but its not the same to some people unless it was put there by the factory.
Why do you not understand the prices on the newer ferrari's? They're not exactly cheap when new.
The 32 Chevy was probably historically significant one of a kind type of thing. I don't know anything about cars that old.
