so this thread can be as useful to you as possible, what underground metal bands are you already into? i'll forge ahead with some suggestions regardless...
shadows fall (old-school thrash + metalcore)
mastadon (almost-prog metal, but really heavy)
killswitch engage (metalcore with a great sense of melody)
lamb of god (heavy as hell)
nevermore (mustaine produced their first album, which is about as good a recommendation as can be made for a metal band, i suppose)
