If either of you have an active cold sore, and you're both not infected in all regions, I would just stay away from the kissing/sex/oral sex until it's cleared up. Herpes, while most people have it, can become a problem and is fairly easy to avoid if you use your head. Whether it be a cold sore on your lip or on your penis, it can be transmitted to either region. Awhile back a friend of mine gave it to herself. Her boyfriend went down on her after kissing her (she had a cold sore) and viola, three months later she had her first breakout.
Too bad they don't have a decent sex ed program in school, this could have been avoided easily. The kids in the US are just taught to think that only people that have sex with lots of other people are at risk, and they skip the most important part, EDUCATION.
I have major beef with how "right" the schools are getting...
