The league changed the rules of the game (power play) on account of their strength. Used to be, two full minutes PP regardless of goals scored. Montreal used to score so many in those 2 min. that it was decided that a single goal (for the team one man up, obviously) marked the end of the PP. Y'know, like it is now.
How often does a league, in any sport, change the rules because of a single team's awesomeness?

Happened in the eighties when Edmonton liked getting 4 on 4 so much with coincedental minors that the NHL did away with that rule, but it was reversed later....
