greatest dynasty team(s) any sport

There are alot of great teams. Every sport has a dynasty but which teams are the best.

A. Who do you think is the best?
B. Which player(s) made that team a dynasty?

Football - 70's Steelers, Franco Harris, Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swan (yes, he's useless, but he can make some circus catches), and the Steel Curtain defense.

Baseball - Yankees, 1900-2003 They only win the championship every 5 years.

Basketball - 80's Lakers, Celtics from way back when, and Current Lakers

The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

As much as it pains me to say it, the Yankees

1921-41, 1947-64, 1976-81, 1995-2001.

Hockey, the Canadians, dunno the years

Basketball, the Celtics, early sixties.

Football, nothing that can compare with any of those.

I really can't comment on many American sports, but I do know one thing - soccer:

Real Madrid 1999ish-present. They win the La Liga title about every other year, oh and they have won the Champions League a couple of times: key players - Raul, Roberto Carlos, Figo.

Manchester United of the mid to late 90s. Completely obliterated the English league every year (bar 1998 ), as well as winning the treble in 99 (English Premiership, FA Cup and the Champions League). Key players: Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes.

I'm suprised this hasn't been mentioned before.

Basketball-Bulls with Jordan

Baseball-duh, Yankees

Football-I'll back up the Cowboys: 20 straight years of winning seasons ending in 1988 I think. Then in the 90's 3 super bowls wins, plus conference championship game in a span of 4 years. Not even the steelers of the 70's or the 49er's of the late 80's can match that. Plus they've been to the superbowl eight times, won it five, and their three losses were all by 4 points or less.
Denver has been to the superbowl 6 times, but is 2-4; Miami, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Washington and San Fransisco have all been to the superbowl 5 times, but none have more victories there than the Cowboys.

North Carolina Womens Soccer. They are by far the best dynasty ever, in ANY sport. I know it sounds kind of silly, but they've won something like 18 out the past 20 something championships. Mia Hamm is the standout player from this dynasty. They just completed an undefeated season this year, winning the national championship game 6-0. Thats ridiculous, its like winning the Super Bowl 56-0.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers teams. Bart Starr, Max McGee, Paul Hornung, and the rest, hard to pick just one player.

Dale Earnhardt and his Richard Childress Racing team from '86-'94 in NASCAR. Six championships in nine years.

Team Penske in IndyCars. They have won something like 11 Indy 500s since 1971.

thats saying alot when you have to compare it to īthe invinciblesī - who have always been the legends of the game.

also, the Wallabies under John Eales and Rod McQueen were the best ever... they won absolutely everything...

Surviving Hurricanes

Baseball - I know everyone (including me) hates to admit it but obviously its the new york yankees... theyve played in i believe 46 world series in 100... thats insane...

Basketball - Historically Probably the Boston Celtics i think they've one about 13 championships (phenomenal), but more recently the LA Lakers 3 in a row (can you imagine if shaq and Kobe actually get along)

Football - There really arent any dynasty's in NFL history because competition is so close... But the winningest teams in NFL history are the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys, so i would go with them..

Finally College Football - (you know where this is going...) ok historically, It was Notre Dame in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Oklahoma in the 50's...

But most would have to admit that the Miami Hurricanes have been the greatest dynasty in the last 20 years. Realistically, they have 5 national championship in that span, they've played for another 5 or 6 titles.... but more recently what they've but together the last four years was remarkable... they have played in all four BCS bowls in the last four years, including two National Championship games....

Now to answer Streak_56's questions, the players they have produced in the 20 years of there "dynasty".... (a VERY impressive list) a total of "79" players Drafted since 1983...

here are the more famous ones:

Jim Kelly
Jay Brophy
Eddie Brown
Kevin Fagan
Vinny Testaverde
Alonzo Highsmith
Jerome Brown
Winston Moss
Bennie Blades
Michael Irvin
Dan Stubbs
Brett Perriman
Melvin Bratton
Cleveland Gary
Bubba Mcdowell
Cortez Kennedy
Jimmy Jones
Russell Maryland
Craig Erickson
Leon Searcy
Darryl Williams
Ryan McNeil
Micheal Barrow
Darrin Smith
Kevin Williams
Lamar Thomas
Horace Copeland
Jessie Armstead
Warren Sapp
Chris T Jones
Ray Lewis
Kenard Lang
Kenny Holmes
Tremain Mack
Twan Russel
Duane Starks
Edgerrin James
Bubba Franks
Nate Webster
Michael Boireau
Dan Morgan
Damione Lewis
Santana Moss
Reggie Wayne
James Jackson
Bryant Mckinnie
Jeremy Shockey
Phillip Buchanon
Ed Reed
Mike Rumph
Clinton Portis
Najeh Davenport
Daryl Jones
Joaquin Gonzalez
Ken Dorsey
Willis McGahee
Andre Johnson
Matt Walters
Jamaal Green
William Joseph
Andrew Williams

Im sorry the list was so long, but I hope this answers your question Streak_56....

ok i dont wanna waste anymore space...

Basketball - Lakers... people like Magic, Kareem, Shaq and Kobe.. (not to mention the old-newcomers)... I mean everyone beats up on the Yanks.. but the Lakers team rite now.. is just unfair

Baseball - Yankeeees what can i say? Babe, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio, Yogi, Jeter and Mo.. all great players on a great team

Football - 49ers... i guess thats the closest you can get to a dynasty in the NFL with all the salary cap issues and all..

Hockey - ............ what?

All the above mentioned teams plus....

U of Toledo football, early 70's, 33 straight wins
No big names played on those teams.
There's a couple of DII and DIII football teams that have totally dominated also.

I think you'd have to include Duke basketball in the 90's as well.

Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France. Last 6 years

As mentioned a few times already... hockey: Montreal Canadiens.

The league changed the rules of the game (power play) on account of their strength. Used to be, two full minutes PP regardless of goals scored. Montreal used to score so many in those 2 min. that it was decided that a single goal (for the team one man up, obviously) marked the end of the PP. Y'know, like it is now.

How often does a league, in any sport, change the rules because of a single team's awesomeness?

This is kind of an unkown thing, but a really cool story for anyone into sports history etc.

Edmonton Grads...1923 - 1940 - Basketball (ladies)

"During the next 17 years, the Grads would play in 120 games in the Underwood [tournament] series. They would end up with a 114-6 record. "

"Their record was an amazing 27-0" Olympic record. 1924 - 1936

In the Olympics overall outscored oponents 6 to 1.

Total all time winloss record of 502-20
Longest winning streak 147 games.

Happened in the eighties when Edmonton liked getting 4 on 4 so much with coincedental minors that the NHL did away with that rule, but it was reversed later....

I wont comment on other sports, as my knowledge of their history isnt as good as it is for football (NFL) and basketball (NBA), but in those two sports, the greatest dynasties are:

the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70s - 4 Super Bowl Championships in 6 years

the 60s Boston Celtics - 11 championships in 13 years

those achievements are far and above anything done by any other team in those two leagues
