Well I can only speak for myself but it worked for me.
There are still a lot of aspects that haven't been completely worked out but the important parts seem right.
We took it one day at a time and spent thousands of hours on the phone as well.
I think you have a good chance if you are both willing to take the steps necessary to make things work.
There will be many compromises but that seem to be an important part of love.
