Nightscape
Nightscape
How quickly one forgets the stars
Passing years replace the innocence
Of lying, staring up at nothing
Weeping, only moon bears witness.
She cared not then and cares not now
Cold companion to my stillness
Barren heart, no longer loves
Nor does she, princess of ice.
Far am I from those days
When luxury I had for staring
At the stars, and caring not
I live or die, it mattered little.
Will I lay again on that same porch-step
Clad in sparkling frost
Wishing that the end come sooner
Fall asleep, under the moon.
