When I think about how much money a team would have to pick up in order to take ARod (or manny when i think about him) I try to picture what Vlad is going to get in FA. He is ALMOST the player ARod is, but you don't have to give away prospects or players to get him. I don't picture him getting any more than15 mil in the market. Going by that Texas would have to pay at least 10 mil a year for 6 (or is it 7)years for Arod not to play for them. If they only pay that much a team isn't going to give much in the way of prospects because they are still paying a ton for years down the road. I just see baltimore picking up a big FA and keeping their prospects.
Where I agree totally is that Texas needs money and prospects/pitching. I just don't think they are going to get both. I also think Texas needs money more than they need prospects. This is what makes me think that the mets and boston are the two teams that really have a chance at him since they have the most money to burn.
In the long run Arod for Manny saves the Rangers something like 60 million dollars because of difference in cost and lenght of contract. That's the appeal of it for the Rangers. eventually they do get to use that cash for pitching.
About Nomar - The two places I hear talked about the most are LA and the Angels. I'm not sure who they have for pitching though. From the angels I hear washburn and from the dodgers I here perez. perez is young and cheap though so i don't think that would happen. Oh, and I was wrong', I said trade for an ortiz type that could play left field. I ment pick one up in FA. Really they are flexable there though Millar or possibly Kapplar could do a reasonable job out there. I just bet they will find some guy that can hit .280, 20 home runs, and 70 RBI.
huge texas trade - this actually makes sense dollars wise, but I guess there are a few issues. Boston had all the offense in the world last year, it was their pitching that fell short. Also, Pedro is a 10 5 guy and I really think boston is going to make pedro a life long red sox player. I just don't think boston would try to trade away pitching, even if pedro would allow it.
All of this said, I don't know it this really improves the sox or the rangers. It sure would be interesting though.
