I like the BYU and Notre Dame comment. But if God is not Catholic or Mormon (or at least doesn't favor the football teams of these groups), wouldn't Southern Methodist or Baylor be in line before Cal? Cause maybe God loves Methodists or Baptists more than a motley collection of state school students.

Seriously, though - Cal is at 6-6 - they beat everyone they should have (perhaps with the exception of USC), and lost to everyone else they should have. They've had some nice games, and the new coaching staff is doing an excellent job. Losses to Oregon, Oregon State, Kansas State, Utah, Colorado State, and UCLA indicates that they are still a cut below, however.

The good news is that Stanford remains on the schedule - and that all but means bowl game!
