This just in... 2004's NCAA Football Champs will be...

the Bears of California. Thats right. Its in the stars. I looked up at night and was able to make out a Cal constellation.
If the stars wouldn't lie about little baby Jesus, they won't lie about football, right? I mean, every football player thanks God over every touchdown, so He must take sides. Obviously, with BYU and Notre Dame struggling THIS year, we can conclude that this year God is neither Catholic nor Mormon. Right?

I like the BYU and Notre Dame comment. But if God is not Catholic or Mormon (or at least doesn't favor the football teams of these groups), wouldn't Southern Methodist or Baylor be in line before Cal? Cause maybe God loves Methodists or Baptists more than a motley collection of state school students.

Seriously, though - Cal is at 6-6 - they beat everyone they should have (perhaps with the exception of USC), and lost to everyone else they should have. They've had some nice games, and the new coaching staff is doing an excellent job. Losses to Oregon, Oregon State, Kansas State, Utah, Colorado State, and UCLA indicates that they are still a cut below, however.

The good news is that Stanford remains on the schedule - and that all but means bowl game!

Astrology is bunk. Stars don't lie, but those who read them do.

Bear in mind that Oklahoma loses 2 defensive starters and 1 or 2 offensive starters next year (depending on Jason White applying for a hardship waiver). The juggernaut rolls on.

California has made a good return from that 1-10 season two years ago. They will be a legitmate contender for the Pac-10 next year.

My thinking is that Cal (er.. more like wishful thinking) has a favorable schedule that should still land them in a top spot provided that they go undefeated--they have lost 4 games in the final minute or in OT, all this on a team that returned 9 starters. Since just about the ENTIRE team is returning next year, I feel that they have as good a shot as anyone. This 6-6 team (and they will KILL Stanford on Sat) is o-so-close to being 10-2, and with all of their starters returning, including the return of medical redshirt super-seniors at key positions, they are gonna be tough to beat. Of course, Oklahoma is looking like they're gonna kick some serious a$$ next year too.

"Cause maybe God loves Methodists or Baptists more than a motley collection of state school students. "

Maybe, but I think that God is at least favoring the agnostic group this year, what with the powerful football performances of secular Oklahoma and Ohio State, coupled with the proliforation of pornography on the internet and in pop-culture in recent years.

Fuck that!

The only three losses they should have had were against USC, Wazzou and Kansas State. I would say Kansas State and Wazzou Cal could have beat.

Our out of conference opponents were mediocre to weak.

Within conference, god, Tedford should have switched out Roger for Robertson against Oregon State. Oregon, we played way too damn conservatively in the second half, or the offense wasn't firing. Rather reminiscent of Holmoe's style.

UCLA was close, a comeback loss. What made it bad was the fact that Stanford romped them. Tyler Frederickson is the Mark Jensen of the two past seasons. When you pray that he makes a 40 yard field goal.

I don't remember anything about the Colorado State game.

agreed with ^^^^. Next year, Cal doesn't lose any of those games. Not only are they returning the entire team, but they have AMAZING depth at just about every position (still waiting on that OLine). 3rd string running backs bustin' for 100+ yards, 4th string for 70+ in the same game, you gotta love their chances. Rogers should be 2nd team all-Pac 10 behind Leinhart this year, and 1st team next year. He is WAY solid. Robertson is a solid backup, and I think Longshore from Hart high is gonna be solid too--though he's gonna blueshirt for sure barring a QB tragedy. This team beats K-State if they play now, and for sure next season (wish we did play). The only upset that I see next year could possibly be Airforce, as Cal just can't seem to figure out the option. As the first game of the season, however, they'll have plenty of time to design a gameplan. Take care of AirForce, $C, and OSU to begin the Pac-10, and the Bears will be on cruise control.

Actually, I guess that is how we have beaten Washington in the past 2 years. Our corners might not be our strong point, but our run D seems to be always a little worse.

When Tuiasasopo left Washington, and Pickett came in without a good back, Washington just went traditional spread offense that all PAC-10 teams know how to handle.

As long as we're speculating about next year's champs (admittedly ridiculously early), I'm gonna voice my opinion and say that Georgia has a shot if they stay healthy. With a defense ranked just behind Oklahoma for 2nd and their QB David Greene definitely returning... they've got a good chance. Hopefully Pollack (DB), Gibson (WR) and others will decide to stick around for one more chance at national title glory.

I checked out the stars - talked to one of them asstrometers and the such and had it explained to me this way. When Venus is in consumption with Marz and Aquarius comes of age, there are some more little starz that will all line up and what you will have is a very vizible picture of the Sooner Schooner and a bunch of little horses - goin' in and out of a big hole in the wall!! Oklahoma isn't losing enough this year to hardly even have to reload and there is a host of blue-chip freshman jocks checkin' out Norman every afternoon!!!

I can't figure it out. How can a team like Oklahoma field an amazing football team. No offense--if thats possible with my next statement--but who the bleep would want to live in Oklahoma?
I'd think that players would wanna be where the hottest chicks were.

Obviously you have never been to Oklahoma or never spent any time there to make a statement like that.

If you mean you don't want to live in a place with a low-cost of living, people who give you the shirt off their back, low crime rate, lots of outdoor activities (Oklahoma has a ton of lakes for fishing and good areas for hunting) then you must be nuts. Yes, the pace isn't for everyone, but I feel blessed every day that I get to live in a place where life has such a low stress level.

...........
.
Let me add the chance to go to the smallest school in the Big 12! OU is a small school compared to the rest of the Big 12 - which makes it even sweeter when they're kickin' ass and takin' names later. Oklahoma is a beautiful state with scenary that is second to no one. While our mountains may not be as tall they are just as pretty - we have everything but ocean and we don't need one of those anyway! Before you bad mouth our state come take a look at it - You might be envious before you leave!

Um, would you be able to enlighten me and tell me where these mountains are in Oklahoma? I've been to Oklahoma once... in fact I was at OU for a national quiz bowl tournament. I was just awestruck by how vast and flat the land was out there.

Just like any other state that is large, there are many areas of Oklahoma. Around Oklahoma City you will not see mountains. Ninety miles to the south are the Arbuckle Mountains which are actually older than the Appalaichian Mountains. In the southeast part of the state are the extension of the Ozarks. We are not talking large mountains here. Most are of an older geological age and are pretty well worn down. If you have been to northern Alabama to the foothills of the Appalaichian Mts, then you will know what parts of the state look like.
