When the police take advantage of the power and responsibility they have been given to further their own life while taking away from society.

As a whole, there is already a growing problem of people not respecting police, or even trusting them. As corruption grows within this system of authority, society loses more respect and trust until eventually the system is broken down and as is a growing trend, people begin to "take the law into their own hands."

Also, how many cases are not reported because no one believes the police can keep them safe now? As an example, how many battered wives don't report their husbands because they don't trust the police, or the system to help them and protect them?
