Some advice on a paper that is due.. and I have procrastinated too much on... :)
I am working on a 6 page (12 pages when I'm done due to double-spacing) paper on Corruption within Police.
Phred has given me a number of sources that I have been unable to pull up on the systems at my school... a few have worked so I do have a few decent sources... but anyway.. I have procrastinated a little too long on this one because I have to show my professor tomorrow morning/afternoon 11:30 the "progress" I've made. HAHAHAHAHA... anyway.. I wanted to know if anyone had any good sources I might be able to reference and get some ideas from or some personal experiences that I won't reference but can use to learn more about the subject on a personal level. So if anyone has any tid bits.. please let me know. Thank you! Also if you can, answer these questions: What is police corruption? and how do you think it affects society as a whole?

As a whole, there is already a growing problem of people not respecting police, or even trusting them. As corruption grows within this system of authority, society loses more respect and trust until eventually the system is broken down and as is a growing trend, people begin to "take the law into their own hands." Also, how many cases are not reported because no one believes the police can keep them safe now? As an example, how many battered wives don't report their husbands because they don't trust the police, or the system to help them and protect them? |

In a local newspaper/magazine a while ago, there was an issue about how wives/gf of cops are abused and they had no one to turn to. This isn't from the site, but it's a copy of the article.

Does it have to be on US corruption? The Mexican police force corruption scandals are near mythic. You can write volumes about how that corruption impacts tourism, the US's drug war, illegal immigration into the US, etc.
I mean there are cases of Mexican police kidnapping tourists and forcing them to withdraw money from MAC machines, people held for ransom, etc, etc, etc. The corruption down there is very organized and has historical roots going back generations.

I am focusing on corruption in the United States within police. I am just curious to see how other people feel about the subject as well I am hoping my internet connection will be up (next Tues) so that I can view these sources from home and get a little more done on my paper. Thank you for the responses so far though... very interesting
