It's a fun game, but even though I'm a mapping purist I play the computer version. Takes away so much tedium.
The fixxed player-nation number makes it somewhat inflexible. It isn't too hard to have one guy play Russia and U.K...or even have an Axis-Allies 1 on 1...but if you have more than 5 people (my gaming group has 7) you're out of luck.
Although both sides have their fair share of strategies, there are a few for the Allies that make them nearly unbeatable. Japan's paper-empire on mainland Asia can be taken down with ease if the U.K. player knows what he's doing.
