Most of the time proxy sites are not useful at all. They can hide your IP so that you can post, email, or surf anonymously, but alot of times, the proxy sites themselves are there to gather information, not just hide yours. I have found at least three proxy sites that turn around and sell the "surfing habits" of the users who use them to marketing companies. As well, email addresses you enter can be taken and sold to SPAM lists. If you really want to clear your tracks, use software, but be warned. No matter how hard you try, there will always be a record of where you went when you're on the Internet. (Even if the information is never shared)
