Sorry for the confusion, let me clarify what I meant.
What I mean is that so long as there are viable, effective alternatives to animal testing, I think we are morally obligated to use them, otherwise we are making animals suffer needlessly and I think this is immoral. The means medical testing, make up testing, whatever. Right now I believe that for the purposes of testing makeup products, there are good alternatives to animal tests.
Medical experiments are another matter. There is no amount of computer simulation that will replace biological experiments on live animals. Animals should be treated as well as possible under such circumstances (painkillers, food, etc.) but if there is a choice between infecting monkeys to cure AIDS or not infecting them and maybe not finding a cure, I know what I choose.
