By not allowing you to delete your posts serves a few purposes:
1) It makes you stop and consider your post, to make sure you write what you intended to say.
2) It stops people from writing something completely rude or mean, letting it stay for an hour, then deleting it so they do not get in trouble.
3) It preserves the ability for people to respond to what you wrote without other people wondering what they were talking about.
