I think scent is tied to memory as well. While the little things about the women I've dated may fade away, I can almost always remember how they smell. And it works both ways. Sometimes I'll find myself thinking about former girlfriends and such when a particular scent comes my way.
Lavender and Ylang Ylang will do it everytime and a girl I was interested in, but never dated, used to wear this cheap ass perfume called "vanilla fields." (I think) so everytime I smell real vanilla I'm transported back to my awkward teenage years.....as opposed to my awkward twentysomethings....
