The non-sedating antihistamines(claritin and its generics, clarinex,allegra,zyrtec) do seem to build a tolerance after about 2 years of use, but usually switching to a different one in the group works
Many prescription plans will not cover any of the non-sedating AH now that claritin is OTC, unless the doc gets preapproval, which involves documenting that the OTC claritin did not work for the patient
Also happening in some other drug classes- like the stomach meds(proton pump inhibitors) now that one of them went OTC.
The steroid nasal sprays(like flonase) are a great alternative, and most are covered by plans
