We have both. Ususally DVDs with lots of extras and audio tracks require the extra space afforded by DVD9 (dual layered discs). Otherwise, they're usually DVD5. I'd say maybe 1 in 3 is DVD9, but that seems to be changing as newer movies are made/filmed with DVD extras in mind.
Supposedly, the blue laser drives will do dual layered discs (DVD9) when/if they hit the market
