I picked up a new 350z track a couple of months ago. I owned a WRX, 3000GT VR-4, 1st gen Eclipse GSX, and finally a 1984 300zx in previous lives. I absolutely love the new car; the power, performance, and price. It's funny that people say it needs more power, but looking back on the history of the Z you'll find decent power, low price and good looks. The 300zx all but killed the Z series with it power and >$45K price tag. The 350z is a step back and forward at the same time, a move that Nissan will be able to cash in on. A modest price (26K-34K), “looks”, and a well matched engine attribute to the high sales figures Nissan is seeing. Sure the looks are controversial. Some like it some don’t. Sit in one for a moment, take it for 10,000ft twisting hill climb or whatever torture test of your choice, and then judge it.
My personal takes on the looks. At first (pre-purchase) I was reserved about it. There were some angles and things that looked a little odd. However seeing it in person and subsequently parked in my garage I absolutely love it. I know many like the look of the car. I cannot count how many times I’ve seen people walking around the car checking out every detail. Always have positive comments when I talk to them, even if I play like it’s not my car, just another admirer like them. I’ve even seen people taking pictures with my car. The funniest was a family 5, who were obvious tourists (I live in Hawaii). My favorite, of course, was coming out of the local Wal-Mart to find this absolutely gorgeous woman perched up next to my car. Let’s just say this car is for those who like attention, both on the road and in the parking lot. All of this combined with the driving machine that it is, turned out to be an awesome package; one that I have been very happy about.
Anyway, this is just one owner’s take on the subject. Additionally, I’m probably the stereotypical type of owner, in that I’m young, single, and male.
So…take it how you will.
