thanks for all the imput. I still have no idea how I'm going to manage it. right now the speakers are situated on the old slim speaker stands that I have. The problem that arises is that the only place they work for remotely acceptable placement are in traffic areas and they just cant stay there.

The brackets are a good idea and would work for the left speaker, but on the right side of the tv the patio door really takes up the 3' of ideal placement. Surrounds are a whole other issue. At this point I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to get rid of one of our chairs and place the tv on the flat wall. Sure it eats up space and wastes the area above the fireplace, but it would make my dvd watching much better.
