Good points, it's funny that as I was reading that I was thinking of a Star Wars analogy before I even got to the Empire Strikes Back Reference.
To extend the idea:
Sean Connery - Star Wars (the original; the basis for all that follows and hard to bring down from the pedestal)
Timothy Dalton - Empire Strikes Back (gritty and depressing, but kinda worth the effort)
Pierce Brosnan - Return of the Jedi (bit of a mix, the campy and the cool. Fairly slick overall)
Roger Moore - Attack of the Clones (imagine if AOTC had been made in the seventies; he's like the campy and blatant teenage Anakin, but it's still good fun)
