Honestly, if I were Charla, I would have made the same decision. She was never interested in Dave as anything more than just someone to be friendly towards while moving closer to the finals. In the end, he proved himself to be more of a liability (by lying to Holly and Scott) than an asset. I bet that Charla was incredibly relieved when they announced the couple-switch "twist," as she really had no chance when teamed up with Dave.
Dave wins an ultimate prize too -- he learns that even if he gets to the end of the game by cheating and lying, he won't necessarily win.
