Some people need the motivation that weighing in weekly can provide. I have been on WW for 3 months now and am 34 lbs down. I have around 30 more to go before I achieve lifetime and then the meetings are free. I tried to do it on my own, but it was hard to know how much was too much without getting the literature, etc (some things don't fill you up but have tons of calories). Yes, I could have done this on my own, but it provided the framework and motivation for me to continue.
