If you just want to shoot at targets and have fun, try out a .22 rifle. They are much more accurate and easy to shoot than a pistol, and around here (Texas) you can get 550 rounds for under 10 bucks. My girlfriend and I like to take it to the range and shoot the metal silhouettes. The PING! you get when you hit one is very satisfying.

I like to shoot clay skeets too but I only have a 12 gauge and it's a little much for repetitive shots

(Range doesn't allow rifles on the skeet range.)
