I have no comment on the legal matter but rather on the car (1980 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 Hardtop). I used to own one of these. It was a fun quick car and I would pay them the extra bucks.
I've heard of people even collecting these cars. Perhaps you could get it in good enough shape that you could sell it.
