I have seemed to get a good finger/forearm workout when i chop wood and i alter hands with hold the axe and the other picking up wood to chop (ie put it on the choppping block).
I also have these hand gadets that you squezze in and out (probably works the same as a tennis ball, but probably with more resistance)
Although that may not work to well for your situation (ie not everyone needs to chop wood) giving massages has helped my hand strength a bit.
