I evaluate stuff like this on a risk:reward basis. If I was a high-level competitive bodybuilder where steroids and HGH could make the difference between winning and losing, it might be worth the downsides on my health over the long term.
But I'm not. I'm Joe Shmoe. Like most people, I'm nowhere near the physical peak I could obtain purely through hard work and decent nutrition. And at age 30, I'll never be at the top of any competitive sport unless I take up something not especially physically demanding like lawn bowls or golf.
Basically, it would be a dumb thing for me to do. I'd risk my health for what? A reward (getting stronger/looking better) I can obtain just by going to the gym, which I'd have to do for the drugs to work, anyway.
