there are some nice cheap programs if you just wanna fart aroudn with layout and floorplans and have some quick models at your disposal.
I have a program i bought ofr 10 dollars at best buy called "3D floorplan archetect" and it worksd well enough to get the job done.
you make the floor plan, and then click the walls and extrude them to make a desired height. Then for the second floor you just do the same thing at an elevation that matches the ceiling of the first floor.
Another really good option for a cheap 3d home simulator is "The Sims" hell it';s for pc, and every videogame console, and you can play with ti for hours customising your house and awallpaper and furniture. The industry uses mostly autocad, or 3Dstudio Viz and some other programs buthose cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.. How devoted to this are you?
If you get a company to help you build the house, they can make mockup models of the floorpplan you plan on using out of styrofoam and cork.
Just a suggestions....good luck!
