Since there were BBSes I have been a constant Internet User. My online time is equal to the time I've been on earth since I first dialed into my local BBS.
For me, it's about adding another task to the multitask list.
For the other mods and admins. I can tell you that many many many hours of our time are devoted to the site.
And of course, there are members who are contributing content and contributing to the community on a daily basis for hours at a time...
