Dont let it ping. Go into a lower gear when climbing hills or buy higher grade gas. Pinging is BAD for the engine. i remember hearing how in more extreme cases it can totally destroy your pistons. something like destroying the top, messing up that layer on top of it ... barrier layer or someting... and the heat can actually get to the piston then and start to melt/burn holes in it...
either way, if its pinging a lot it IS something to worry about a little...
