Calm down, Analog.
I think your age DOES have some relevance, in that at least it gives others an understanding of what generation you come from.
A person who grew up with Elvis or the Beatles will definately have a different cultural perspective than a person who grew up with Fleetwood Mac or REM.
For myself, I love the Beatles. As it's been said, the Beatles WERE revolutionary at the time. They introduced completely new sounds from the first Rock 'n Roll of the 50's (think Chubby Checker, Buddy Holly, etc.).
What was especially remarkable about the Fab Four was how their music evolved. Early 'perky' (and simple) music, like "Eight Days a Week" evolved into deep searching tunes like "Let It Be" while they explored unknown territory with tunes like "Revolution No. 9". They also constantly experimented with new sounds and instruments, such as the sitar ("Norwegian Wood") as well as traditional music in new ways ("Sgt. Pepper").
So while you may not like them, modern music (probably some you like) owes a lot to The Beatles.
