My college health teacher believed that running in the morning before eating trained your body to store fat more readily when you finally do get some calories. Constantly straining your body would cause it to store more fat during the rest of the day. It seems to make sence, but I'm no biologist.
I used to run in the afternoons, but after a few night runs with dunkelhelmut I was converted. It's a lot cooler out, there's no traffic to deal with, and my asthma dosen't bother me as much.
