Well i don't believe that there is only one person you are ment to spend the rest of your life with, if that's what you mean by soulmate. However if you mean people being compatible in each others disposition, point of view, sensitivity, and having complete trust in that person and that kind of thing, then i would say i believe in the idea of a soulmate.
As for the second question, i guess it wouldn't neccesarily have to be someone who you are romantically involved with as long as you and that person see eye to eye on almost everything.
This thread kind of reminds me of the episode of the simpsons where Homer starts to disbelieve that marge is his soulmate so he goes on a quest to find his true soulmate and he questions the idea of Barney being his soulmate.
