Same here. I felt it was an homage (sp?) to the Romero movie, only slightly updated for more modern special effects and attitudes. Plus, I believe he had the full blessings of Romero.

Also, I loved how the female lead looked out at the slowly shuffling zombies and said what every one in the audience had been thinking for the last three movies, "We can just walk right past them!"
