Detroit is 32-97 as of this morning. Here's their 33 remaining games, and their record against that team:
3 at Cleveland (2-9)
3 vs. Chicago (7-9)
4 vs. Cleveland
3 at Toronto (2-1)
3 at New York (1-2)
4 vs. Kansas City (2-10)
3 vs. Toronto
3 at Minnesota (1-8)
3 at Kansas City
4 vs. Minnesota
The 1962 Mets went 40-120, so the Tigers actually have two extra games to work with. They only need to win 11 more games to escape the record, or basically play .333 ball down the stretch. With this team though, that's a tall order, considering they've played .248 this season. Even if they take all 7 from Cleveland (and that's a BIG if, considering the Tigers are 2-9 against the Indians this season) they still have 20 games remaining against teams that are involved in division races. They just came off an 11 game losing streak, and have seen TWO nine game streaks and an eight game streak this season. They've only won 7 games since the All-Star break. This is a team that is monumentally BAD. They are essentially a AAA team that has been thrown to the wolves in the hopes that two or three of them will display the talent to rebuild around. Kind of a "throw a handful of shit against the wall and see what sticks" type of approach.
They'll break the record by at least three games.
