While this may be feasible where you are, it probably isn't feasible in Arizona.
Between the Mississippi and the Pacific there's a huge stretch of land where there is little to no public transportation simply because there isn't a sufficient population density to create a demand for it.
Fort Smith has over 100K people, but only 9 bus routes. If you have to change buses to get somewhere, you'd probably make better time walking. And the only buses that have more than 5 people on time are the ones heading to the chicken-processing plants or to Wal-Mart.
Fort Smith isn't the exception, it's the rule. Oklahoma City has 5 times as many people as Fort Smith, but only 4 times as many routes to cover nearly 20 times the area.
Cheaper car insurance? Get married, it cut my car insurance almost 30%. Get a less sporty car, 4 door sedans are the cheapest to insurance.
