Like I said, I believe, and I want to believe. The terms I quoted may be familiar from SciFi, but the concepts of folding space/time, generating gravity wells and other alternate methods of propulsion are already being theorized. Just because these do not project from our current technology doesn't make them impossible. Go back to 1803 and "prove" that microwaves can cook food. (You can't take any technology back with you!)
Yes, I've read tons of SciFi. The best of it has a sound scientific base. Gene Roddenberry does tend to flex the laws a bit, but his universe is conceptually possible. "We are the dreamers of dreams...."
