If everything is following a predefined script, then so are you. Personally I don't believe in fate, predetermination, and other such poppycock.
Life, and existance in general, is a random equation. If you had a time machine that let you change the spin state of one single election in the prehistoric ages, you might totally screw up history as we know it, and that disproves any sort of fate argument, as far as I know (assuming fate is "linear"). And here's how:
Lets assume you're right, and we've got a working time machine that lets you go back in time and sterilize your own parents before you were born. You'd cease to exist in the present, since you were never born in the past. Wouldn't that mean the script just changed? For the same point in time (the present), there are now two different outcomes!
