Offer your lineup anyway: a) it's always interesting to see what bands have played with other bands at festivals, b) it's fun to compare n' contrast musical tastes, and c) you can always secretly mock what everyone else likes...
I never went to a full-scale festival a la Donnington or Coachella, but the original Lollapaloozas, 1991-95 (I didn't go in '96 or '97), were pretty great. If I had to pick one year, 1995 gets the nod: on two stages I saw Sonic Youth, Hole, Cypress Hill, Yo La Tengo, Sinead O'Connor, Beck, the Geraldine Fibbers, the Jesus Lizard, the Bosstones, Brainiac, Coolio, Sabalon Glitz, and probably a couple of others I can't remember. The fact that some of these bands would even play together, let alone that a major American tour would ever feature e.g. the Jesus Lizard on their main stage (not to mention other interesting picks: one year
the Boredoms played the main stage, for god's sake), makes me sort of depressed about Lollapalooza's conservative new incarnation.
