I'm currently using gnome, but not because of any strong preference.
I REALLY like enlightenment, but it was too much of a hog on my PIII 1ghz, and too easy to screw up and misconfigure. After looking at broken grey-box window borders a few times, I figured I'd wait for e17, and kick back to gnome while I wait.
Whatever desktop shell/window manager combo I use MUST include the ability for a lowered window to have input focus. That's absolutely crucial to me, and THE main reason I'll never use Windows for anything serious ever again.
