Suffering myself from a bit of delusional depression in life right now I found myself getting the movie simply because Barry finally has something worth living for and he does everything he can to keep that happiness. Even if he does some weird stuff (the deleted scenes at the supermarket are great) he just is grasping on to anything to keep his depression from being overwhelming. Change in routine helps. I think that is why he picks up the piano.
When he snaps and starts yelling at his sister on the phone during the parade I stood up shouting, "Go Barry!" Finally he has the balls to fight back against the shit that is confining him.
Damn good movie. Adam Sandler gives a totally underrated performance.
