I am a big fan of the book, and while the movie was different, I think it helped it appeal to a wider audience.
It was a good action/matinee film, and the addition of a character like Tom Sawyer helped the illeterate masses identify with a character they had at least heard of.
All in all, I wasn't blown away, just pleasantly suprised with a fun movie.
