do you have call waiting or is it a "partyline" ?
if so turn off the call waiting, software with the modem should help disbale call waiting. also check the
connection protocals are correct and the time out settings are
proper (ie the time the modem waits to connect and will terminate and retry after if unsuccessful)
you can try using a differnt phone jack \ phone
or call your isp \ phone company they should be able to help.
