Just re-read all the books, since I'd got the 10th one and it had been some 13 years since the first. After the first 6 I remembered why I loved it, after the last 4 I remembered why I wondered if it would ever end.
The characters, however, are very realistic. If you have a few months of spare time, read the whole series from start to finish, and it's much more entertaining.
