Wheel of Time series
Hi, does anyone out there want to discuss the Wheel of Time series? I have read the entire series and would love to discuss it with someone. I have also read all the Pratchett novels, Eddings, Douglas Adams, and many more, all basically in the sf/fantasy genre. I'd like to discuss these too, but a seperate post for each would be great. Please post back so we can determine the outlines of the posting, such as spoilers and the like.

mannnn dont get me started on the Wheel of Time serious. Is it over? like is the tenth one the last one? becuase if thats true then its the worst serious i ever read. I have never been that addicted to a book series before and i loved them. If i finished a book in the middle of the night i couldnt sleep intill the morning when i would get up at 7 and go into town and get the next one.

I started out as a big fan of wot but its just taking to long. I wouldnt have a problem with the length but there really hasnt been 5 books of story so far, let alone 10. There are a lot better series out there like George Martin, Stephen King, Tad Williams, Robin Hobbs, and a few others.

Just re-read all the books, since I'd got the 10th one and it had been some 13 years since the first. After the first 6 I remembered why I loved it, after the last 4 I remembered why I wondered if it would ever end.
The characters, however, are very realistic. If you have a few months of spare time, read the whole series from start to finish, and it's much more entertaining. Go Mat! (Jordan better wrap the thing up soon, dammit!) |

I don't think I've ever been this eager for a series to end. This is quite possibly the most epic fantasy series ever put to print but it's grown to big for it's own good. There are way too many sub plots that hve nothing to do with the main story to keep track of and too many characters to care about anymore.
Pros: A richly detailed world. The main characters are brought to life and fully realized. The main plot is a combination/rehash of several other books and mythology but it works. RJ's storytelling is second to none. Cons: Too many thigs to keep track of. A sub plot is started in one book but then left hanging for several more before being even mentioned again let alone resolved. Once Rand declared himself the Dragon Reborn the main plot has stalled. The last 2 - 3 books have done absolutly nothing to further the main plot other than tie up a few loose ends. Too many similar supporting characters (do we really need to have 15 different people that sereve the same function in the same way with the only difference is a name and location?). I'll keep reading until the end but I hope it comes soon. To be honest I was barely able to finish the latest one. |

Been kicked around a few times:
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...ighlight=Wheel I started a thread on TFP vs3.0 when I finished the last (disappointing) book, but I've successfully forgotten much of it, which is good, since it was so forgettable.
